Emergency Medical Response
Emergency Medical Response or EMR is a pre-ambulance response capability that caters for areas where ambulance response times are too long. We respond to mainly cardiac and respiratory arrest.
To cope with ever increasing ambulance response times in country areas, the CFA initiated a pilot first responder program. The program was modelled on the MFB first responder program.
Whittlesea Fire Brigade emergency medical responders undertake monthly training and an annual re accreditation process. Training is supplied by Ambulance Victoria clinical instructors.
What you need to remember is that when you call an ambulance for cardiac or respiratory arrest, qualified and well trained CFA emergency medical responders may turn up to assist and that an AMBULANCE IS STILL ON ITS WAY.
