EMERGENCY MEDICAL RESPONSE:
For over 10 years Whittlesea Fire Brigade have had a EMR or Emergency Medical Response Team.
Emergency Medical Response or EMR is a pre-ambulance response capability that caters for areas where ambulance response times are too long. We respond to mainly cardiac and respiratory arrest.
Whittlesea Fire Brigade is one of only 7 CFA Fire Brigades that have EMR Training and equipment. Whittlesea Fire Brigade volunteer firefighters co-respond with the nearest ambulance in the Whittlesea area and can manage unconscious, non-breathing and pulseless patients by providing access to life-saving emergency care. Early CPR provides blood flow to a person’s brain and vital organs, and means they have a better chance of survival when medical help arrives.
Whittlesea Fire Brigade emergency medical responders undertake a Ambulance Victoria training program and have monthly training with Ambulance Victoria either in person or online. Training is supplied by Ambulance Victoria clinical instructors.
What you need to remember is that when you call an ambulance for cardiac or respiratory arrest, qualified and well trained CFA emergency medical responders may turn up to assist.
AN AMBULANCE IS STILL ON ITS WAY.
